Karma has officially unveiled the 2017 Revero at a special event in Laguna Beach, California.
To be built in an all new custom, low-volume production facility in Moreno Valley, the four-door
plug-in hybrid is effectively a successor to the Karma, which was originally designed and developed
by the now-defunct Fisker company. The new car will become the first car sold in the U.S. powered by electricity, petrol and solar. The
latter via a solar roof panel that not only charges the 12V battery, but also charges the HV battery
adding to the electric range.Owners can drive the car in full-electric mode for up to 50 miles, while the petrol-powered generator
is said to extend the total range to approximately 300 miles. According to Karma engineers, the HV
battery can be charged to 80 per cent capacity in only 24 minutes.
In terms of performance, the Revero goes from 0-60 in a claimed 5.4 seconds in Sport mode. Aside
from the twin electric motor setup, a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine carried over from
the original Karma delivers 260 bhp.
On the inside there’s a custom infotainment system that has been designed from the ground up. It
incorporates over-the-air updates as well as 4G connectivity.
“We are building each Revero with the workmanship and attention to detail required for a discerning
customer looking for a car without compromises,” said Jim Taylor, Karma’s chief revenue officer.
A list price of $130,000 was announced at the car’s unveiling. The Revero is expected to launch in the
UK sometime in 2018.
